The Hon. Jeanne Schechter is a judge for the Superior Court of Merced County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2017, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Marc A. Garcia.
Schechter earned a B.S. from Ohio State University. She then completed a J.D. from Loyola Law School.
She began her legal career as a sole practitioner in private practice in 1990. The following year, she joined the Office of the District Attorney of Stanislaus County, where she served as a senior deputy district attorney for thirteen years. Then, in 2004, she accepted a position as chief deputy city attorney in the Office of the City Attorney of Merced. She served in that capacity until her appointment as a court commissioner for the Superior Court of Merced County in 2012.
Schechter was a resident of La Grange, California at the time of her appointment.
She is registered as a Republican.
