Judge Jean M. Golden - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Jean M. Golden is an associate judge for the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. She was elected to the Circuit Court by the Cook County Circuit judges in 2018.

While on the bench, Golden has held an assignment in the Civil Jury Section of the First Municipal District.

Golden received a B.A. from Boston College. She went on to earn a J.D. at Loyola University, Chicago School of Law.

Prior to joining the bench, Golden was a partner at Cassiday Schade LLP, where she was co-chair of the firm's Insurance Practice Group and a member of its Executive Committee. Her practice there focused on complex, high-exposure insurance coverage and commercial law matters. Golden joined the firm in 1983 and was named a partner three years later.

She began her legal career with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office before joining the Chicago Transit Authority, where she handled corporate and tort litigation matters.

Golden served as a fellow of the American Bar Association, a life fellow of the Chicago Bar Foundation, and a board member of the Federal Bar Association. She has also held memberships with the Chicago Bar Association and the Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois.

She grew up in Northbrook, Chicago, the oldest of three daughters. Her father worked as a local attorney while her mother was a homemaker.

Golden is married to fellow attorney, Robert Montgomery, and they have five children, three of which are from a previous marriage.
