Biography

Hon. Jane C. Barwick is a judge for the Fulton County Superior Court (5th Judicial Administrative District) in Georgia. She was elected to the bench on July 22, 2014.

Prior to her election, Barwick sat as a judicial officer and magistrate judge for the Fulton County Superior Court beginning in April 2012.

She received a B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1976. Barwick went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Georgia School of Law (1979) and an M.Div. from Columbia Theological Seminary (2005).

Early in her legal career, she practiced as an associate in the law firm of Hurt, Richardson, Garner, Todd & Cadenhead (1981 to 1984) before joining Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers in 1984. Over the course of her tenure with the firm, Barwick was named a partner in 1989.

Then, in 1995, she opened her own private solo practice, the Law Offices of Jane C. Barwick, where she practiced until 2001. During that time, Barwick handled family law matters.

She later closed her practice to attend Seminary, during which time she also worked part-time for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, conducting real estate closings. Upon graduating from Seminary, Barwick joined Habitat for Humanity full-time, serving as a senior vice president and in-house counsel.

Barwick has taught as an adjunct professor of law at Emory University School of Law.

She has sat as a member of the Governor’s Commission on Formation of Family Law Court and the Fulton County Task Force on Child Support. Barwick has also served on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Council of Young Lawyers and was a former chair of the Supreme Court of Georgia's Commission on Dispute Resolution.
