Biography

The Hon. Jan Shackelford is a judge for the 1st Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jeb Bush in 2000.

The 1st Judicial Circuit encompasses Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Walton Counties. Shackelford has held assignments in Escambia County.

Shackelford earned a B.A. in English and history from Huntingdon College in 1985. She then completed a J.D. at Florida State University College of Law (1988) and an M.A. at the University of West Florida (1994).

After graduating from law school, Shackelford began her legal career as an attorney in private practice in Jacksonville. She later joined the Office of the State Attorney for the 1st Judicial Circuit, where she served as an assistant state attorney. Shackelford then returned to private practice, this time in Pensacola.
