Judge James R. Brown: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. James R. Brown (Ret.) was a judge for the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. He was elected to the Circuit Court in 2002 and was retained in subsequent elections. Brown retired in 2020 after withdrawing from the November ballot.


While on the bench, he held an assignment in the First Municipal District of the Municipal Department.


Prior to joining the bench, Brown was a private practice attorney. During his tenure in the private sector, he served as an associate and a sole practitioner.


He entered into private practice after working as an assistant state’s attorney from 1990 to 1994. Brown was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1990.
