Judge James J. Hosking - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. James J. Hosking is a judge for the Superior Court of San Bernardino County in California. He was elected to the bench in 2010.

Hosking earned a B.A. in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1995. He then completed a J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1998. Hosking returned to the classroom almost a decade later, receiving an LL.M. from Chapman University School of Law in 2009.

He began his legal career as a law clerk at Franscell, Strickland, Roberts & Lawrence in 1997.

Two years later, he joined the Office of the District Attorney of San Bernardino County as a deputy district attorney. He first served as a trial deputy with the Felony Preliminary Hearing & Misdemeanor Unit. Over the course of his eleven-year tenure there, he was also assigned to the Auto Theft Task Force (2008 to 2010), the California Multi-jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team Unit (2007 to 2008), the Marijuana Suppression & Prosecution Gran Unit (2003 to 2007), the Narcotics Enforcement Unit (2002 to 2003), and the Juvenile Delinquency Prosecution Unit (2000 to 2002).
