The Hon. James G. Bertoli is a judge on the Superior Court of Sonoma County in California. He was elected to the bench in 2000.
Bertoli earned a B.A. in economics, with an emphasis in labor and agriculture, from the University of California, Davis. He then completed a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1985. As a law student, Bertoli clerked for the Legal Department of the California Teachers Association.
Prior to his election to the bench, Bertoli was an attorney in his own private practice, where he specialized in family law and public sector matters.
He was a recipient of the Rex Sater Excellence in Family Law Award from the Sonoma County Bar Association in 2013.
Born and raised in Sebastopol, Bertoli attended Analy High School. Many have noted the extent to which his chambers have been converted into a baseball museum, filled with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves of baseball card albums. He has also been a player on the Tigers of the Redwood Empire Baseball League.
