Biography

The Hon. Ira R. Greenberg is a judge for the Kings County Civil Court in the Second Judicial District of New York. He was originally elected to the Queens County Civil Court bench in 2018 and was then assigned to Kings County the following year.


He is a registered Democrat.


Judge Greenberg graduated with his B.A. in political science from the University of Chicago in 1983. He obtained his M.P.A. in public administration from Baruch College in 1988 and went on to earn his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1996.


Greenberg began his legal career serving as counsel to New York State Assemblymember Catherine Nolan during her time as an MTA Capital Program Review Board Member. He held the position until 2005.


In 2002, Greenberg entered into solo practice while also beginning a sixteen-year tenure as of counsel at Leavitt and Kerson. In those capacities, Greenberg specialized in elder law, wills, trusts and estates, real estate leasing, and purchasing and selling matters.


While maintaining his private practice, Greenberg began his second stint with Assemblymember Nolan’s office, this time working as her chief of staff and legislative counsel until his election to the Civil Court.


His civic memberships have included the Community Board No. 2, the Growing Up Green Charter School, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board, the Kiwanis Club of Sunnyside, and the Sunnyside Artists. Greenberg has also served as a past president of the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and the Western Queens Independent Democratic Club and was the former chair of the Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA.
