Biography

Hon. Heather Coyle is a district judge for the Oklahoma County District Court (District 7) in Oklahoma. She was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018.

During her judicial tenure, Coyle has presided over the Criminal Docket.

Prior to joining the bench, she worked for more than twenty years as an assistant district attorney with the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, where her caseload ranged from drug crimes and homicides to domestic violence programs and incarceration diversion programs. Coyle spent the last decade of her tenure focused on alternatives to incarceration through the Specialty Courts Diversion Programs and criminal justice reform. She also oversaw the Drug/DUI Court Program and was head of the Mental Health Court; the female diversion program, HERS; the Northcare Day Reporting Program; and ReMerge, a female diversion program geared towards reforming pregnant women and mothers facing incarceration.

In addition, Coyle was a speaker at the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse State Specialty Court Conference and a keynote speaker for the HERS program graduation.

She received a B.A. in political science from the University of Oklahoma. Coyle went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Oklahoma College of Law.

She has held a membership with the William J. Holloway American Inn of Court, having served as its treasurer.

From a civic standpoint, Coyle was involved with the Arts Council of Oklahoma City, the Boys & Girls Club of Oklahoma County, the Pauline E. Mayer Shelter, and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. She also served as a sustaining member of the Junior League of Oklahoma City and a board member of Harn Homestead.

Coyle and her husband, Billy, a local criminal defense attorney, have three children. The family attends Christ the King Catholic Church.

She is a native Oklahoman.
