Judge Georgia L. Herrera: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Georgia L. Herrera is a family court commissioner for the Racine County Circuit Court in the Second Judicial District of Wisconsin. She joined the bench in 1999.

While on the bench, Herrera was named a part-time deputy family court commissioner in 2007. Then, in 2020, she was appointed to serve as municipal judge for the Wind Point/North Bay Joint Municipal Court.

Prior to beginning her judicial tenure, she had managed her own private practice, the Law Offices of Georgia Herrera, and was an attorney at Murphy, Paulson & Murphy, S.C. (1999 to 2000).

She also spent time as an assistant district attorney with the Racine County District Attorney’s Office (1988 to 1999) and was a former staff attorney for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (1987 to 1988) and the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee (1985 to 1987).

She received a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1982. Herrera went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1985.

She was president of Taylor Home of Racine and sat as a member of the Federal Nominating Committee. Herrera was also a chairman of the Racine Heritage Museum Board.

She received the Racine County Bar Association Volunteer Award.

Herrera is a native of Racine, Wisconsin.
