Biography

The Hon. George M. Wright is a judge for the 8th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Ron DeSantis on June 24, 2020, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James Nilon.


The 8th Judicial Circuit encompasses Alachua County, Baker County, Bradford County, Gilchrist County, Levy County, and Union County.


Wright earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 2006.


After graduating from law school, Wright began his legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Maurice M. Paul of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida. He served in that capacity until 2008, at which time he joined the Office of the State Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit as an Assistant State Attorney.


Wright was a resident of Gainesville, Florida, at the time of his appointment.


He is registered as a Democrat.
