Judge George A. Steele: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. George A. Steele is a judge for the Mason County District Court in Washington. He was elected to the bench in November 2018.

Prior to joining the bench, Steele sat as a judge for the Shelton Municipal Court for nine years and was a pro tem judge for the Mason County District Court.

Steele received a B.A. from the University of Colorado in 1979. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1983.

Before beginning his judicial career, Steele worked as a deputy prosecutor for ten years and as a private practice attorney for more than twenty years. His practice included criminal defense, civil and bankruptcy matters.

He is a member of the District and Municipal Court Judges’ Association.

Steele was also a former commissioner and president of the Tanglewilde Parks District.

At the time of his election, he resided in Mason County with his wife, Olene.
