Biography

Hon. Geoffrey A. Gaither is a judge for the Marion County Superior Court in Indiana. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Eric Holcomb in 2020, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Marilyn A. Moores (Ret.).

Gaither has held an assignment in the Family Division. Prior to his appointment, he presided as a senior magistrate in the Juvenile Division of the Marion County Superior Court (1995 to 2020).

Before joining the bench, Gaither managed his own private practice since 1993. His legal career also includes working as a deputy public defender (1990 to 1995) and a deputy prosecutor (1987 to 1990) in Marion County. In addition, Gaither taught as an adjunct professor at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and Martin University.

He received a bachelor’s degree in urban planning and design from the University of Cincinnati in 1982. Gaither went on to complete a J.D. at Howard University School of Law in 1985.

He was a member of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc. (Indianapolis Chapter).
