The Hon. Gary A. Medvigy (Ret.) served as a judge for the Sonoma County Superior Court in California. Medvigy was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on June 22, 2007. He retired on October 3, 2016.
Prior to his appointment, Medvigy worked in the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office, where he served as a deputy district attorney from 1988 to 2007.
Medvigy earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Vermont in 1978. He then completed a J.D. at Vermont Law School in 1981.
After graduating from law school, Medvigy served as a military prosecutor for the United States Army until 1988. He then joined the United States Army Reserves, completing three tours of duty in Bosnia, Afghanistan, South Korea, and the Persian Gulf. During that time, he helped rebuild local legal structures destroyed in military conflicts and planned psychological operations with the Office of Military Cooperation and the Special Operations Command.
Born in New Jersey, Medvigy attended Wardlaw High School. He currently resides in Clark County, Washington, where he sits as the District Four Councilor. In his retirement, he enjoys riding his Harley 1200 motorcycle and training to become a commercial flight instructor.
He is registered as a Republican.
