Biography

Hon. Ernest L. Ortega is a judge for the Taos County Magistrate Court in New Mexico. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Richardson in January 2006.

Prior to his appointment, Ortega was the special assistant to United States Senator Jeff Bingaman and the former Director of Pre-Trial Services for the Hon. John Paternoster with the 8th Judicial District Court. He also served as press secretary and spokesperson for New Mexico Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil.

Ortega received a B.A. in political science from the University of New Mexico.

He is registered as a Democrat.
