The Hon. Ernest H. Goldsmith (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. He was appointed by former Governor Pete Wilson on December 3, 1996, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Barbara J.R. Jones. Goldsmith retired on April 14, 2016, having spent most of his judicial career presiding over law & motion, California Environmental Quality Act, asbestos, and civil cases.

Goldsmith attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a B.A. and an M.A. in political science. He then received an LL.B. from Stanford University Law School in 1965.

Goldsmith began his legal career in the Office of the District Attorney of San Francisco County. He served as an assistant district attorney for five years, eventually leaving the public sector to work in private practice.

He joined Riordan and Goldsmith in 1974, where he handled employment class action and commercial cases. Then, in 1976, he started his own firm, the Law Offices of Ernest Goldsmith. As a solo practitioner, Goldsmith specialized in commercial litigation and non-profit organization law, representing non-profit corporations, foundations, hospitals, and healthcare organizations.

Goldsmith was named Trial Judge of the Year by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association in 2005.
