Judge Eric R. Linhardt: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Eric R. Linhardt is a judge for the Lycoming County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was elected to the bench on November 7, 2017.

Prior to his election, Linhardt was the District Attorney for the Lycoming County District Attorney’s Office, a position to which he was named in 2007. Before that, he was a sole practitioner in his own private practice (1995 to 2007). During this time, he was a guardian ad litem through the Lycoming-Clinton Joinder Board, responsible for representing nearly all of the dependent children in Lycoming County court proceedings.

Linhardt earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and political science from Union College in 1987. He then completed a J.D. at The George Washington University Law School in 1990.

After graduating from law school, Linhardt began his legal career as an assistant public defender for the Lycoming County Public Defender’s Office in 1991. He served in that capacity until 1994, at which time he entered into private practice as a civil trial attorney at Mitchell, Mitchell, Gray & Gallagher.

His memberships have included the Lycoming Law Association. He also sat on the Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association as well as the Lycoming County Criminal Justice Advisory Board, the Project Bald Eagle Board, the Lycoming County Prison Board, and the Lycoming Health Improvement Coalition Board.

Linhardt was born at the Fort Muncy Army Hospital in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, where his father was a Captain in the United States Army. He lives in Williamsport with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two daughters. They attend Congregation Beth El.
