Biography

Elliott A. Sattler was a judge for the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County, Nevada. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Brian Sandoval in 2013 to succeed Steven Elliott (Ret.). Sattler lost his bid for re-election to the bench in 2020.

He received a B.S. in political science from Willamette University in 1989. Sattler went on to earn a J.D. from Willamette College of Law in 1992.

Prior to joining the bench, he had worked for the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office for twenty years. During his tenure there, Sattler was a senior trial deputy serving as one of seven attorneys on the “Homicide on Call” team who handed all of the murder cases in Washoe County. His caseload also consisted of serious crimes including arson, sexual assault, serious drug felonies, and major property crimes.

In his free time, he presided over mock trial competitions and constitutional government competitions.

While on the bench, he presided in the General Jurisdiction Division.

Sattler was the past-president of the Washoe County Bar Association and was on the Board of Directors of Washoe Legal Services. He also served on the Transition into Practice Committee of the State Bar of Nevada.

Sattler is a long-time resident of Nevada.
