Biography

The Hon. Elizabeth M. Schwabedissen is a civil magistrate for the 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Miami-Dade County. She was appointed to the bench in 2005.

Her magistrate duties include holding pretrial proceedings on a variety of civil matters including discovery and e-discovery disputes, summary judgment motions, enforcement of settlement agreements, motions to vacate, and attorney disqualifications, just to name a few.

Schwabedissen received a B.S. in economics from Chatham College in 1980. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1983.

After graduating from law school, Schwabedissen practiced at Sparber, Shevin, Shapo, Heilbronner & Brook, P.A. (1984 to 1988) and Caruana & Wells (1988 to 1989) before becoming a partner at Adorno Yoss, P.A. in 1989. She remained with the firm until her appointment to the magistrate position in 2005. Her areas of practice included representing foreign and domestic corporations in complex civil litigation.

Schwabedissen has also served as a panel participant on the subjects of e-discovery, complex discovery, and ethics.

Her memberships have included serving as chair of the Florida Bar Professional Ethics Committee, a board member of the United Way of Miami-Dade County, and a past president of Legal Services of Greater Miami.
