Biography

The Hon. Elizabeth M. Fox-McDonough is a justice on the Nassau County Supreme Court in the 10th Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the bench on November 2, 2021.

Fox-McDonough holds assignments in the Matrimonial Part.

Prior to her election, Fox-McDonough was a judge on the Nassau County District Court, a position to which she was elected in 2017. Before that, she was a principal law clerk to the Hon. Norman St. George of the Nassau County District Court (2014 to 2017).

Fox-McDonough earned a B.A. in political science from St. John’s University in 1984. She then completed a J.D. at St. John’s University School of Law in 1987. She was licensed to practice in New York (1988).

After graduating from law school, Fox-McDonough began her legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Queens County District Attorney’s Office. During her ten-year tenure there, she held assignments in the Special Victims Bureau, prosecuting sex crimes, crimes against children, and elderly and domestic violence matters. She also spent time in the Appeals Bureau, where she specialized in appeals involving felony convictions.

Then, in 1997, Fox-McDonough joined the New York State Unified Court System, working as a principal law clerk to the Hon. Arthur Cooperman of the Queens County Supreme Court. She remained there for the next four years, eventually leaving to become a prosecuting attorney with the Nassau County Traffic Parking Violations Agency. Fox-McDonough returned to the New York State Unified Court System in 2006, this time as a principal law clerk to the Hon. Barry Kron of the Queens County Supreme Court.

Her memberships have included the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County Catholic Lawyers Guild, the Queens County District Attorney’s Association, and the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association. She is also a past president of the Nassau County District Court Board of Judges.

Fox-McDonough has taught legal research and legal writing as an adjunct professor at Queens College, Nassau Community College, and Molloy College.

A resident of Hyde Park, New York, Fox-McDonough was born in Queens County as the youngest of six children. Her father was a captain with the New York City Fire Department. She and her husband have one daughter.

She is registered as a Democrat.
