Judge Eileen M. Baratuci: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Eileen M. Baratuci is a commissioner for the Jefferson County Superior Court in Washington. She was appointed to the bench by Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Keith C. Harper in 2019 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Micky Forbes.

Baratuci holds the part-time commissioner position in conjunction with maintaining the employment law consulting firm of Arbitration, Investigation & Mediation Services, PLLC. She opened the firm in 2012.

She received a B.A. from the University of Puget Sound in 1978. Baratuci then completed a J.D. at the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1981. While in law school, she was awarded the President’s Award and scholarship for academic achievement for two years and was Business Editor for the Law Review.

Prior to opening Arbitration, Investigation & Mediation Services in 2012, Baratuci was a workplace investigator for the City of Seattle and a former senior partner in the Seattle law firm of Davis Grimm Payne & Marra. Her areas of practice included complex litigation, medical malpractice defense, product liability, and employment claims. After that, Baratuci opened her own private law firm, where she handled employment litigation and labor arbitrations as well as provided training and employment practices advice.

During her time in private practice, she gained extensive trial and appellate experience in state and federal courts, including the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In 2009, she became an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission mediator and has worked as a neutral arbitrator in King Pierce, Clallam, and Jefferson Counties for over twenty-seven years. In addition, Baratuci handled matters before the Public Employment Relations Commission, the Department of Labor, and the Employment Securities Commission.

Her memberships included the Employment Law and Mediation Sections of the Washington State Bar Association, the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers (board of trustees), the Jefferson County Bar Association (past president), the Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers (Board of Directors), and the American Association of University Women for the State of Washington (vice president and Director of Programs).

From a civic standpoint, Baratuci was a board member for the Covington Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Maple Valley Community Center.
