Biography

The Hon. Edward P. Leibensperger (Ret.) served as an associate justice for the Massachusetts Superior Court. Leibensperger was appointed to the bench by former Governor Deval Patrick in 2010. He retired in 2018 and joined JAMS as a private mediator and arbitrator.

Prior to his appointment, Leibensperger worked as an attorney in private practice. He was a partner at Nutter, McClennen & Fish (1974 to 2004) and McDermott, Will & Emery (2004 to 2010). During his time in private practice, Leibensperger partnered with Children’s Rights in a federal class action against the Governor of the State of Michigan.

Leibensperger earned a bachelor’s degree from Muskingum College in 1970. He then completed a J.D. at Ohio State University, Michael E. Moritz College of Law in 1974.

His memberships have included the Boston Bar Association (president), the Boston Bar Foundation (treasurer), the American Bar Association, and the American College of Trial Lawyers.

He is a recipient of the Adams Pro Bono Publico Award from the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (2010).
