Hon. Edward Nicholas is a judge for the 12th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Manatee County. He was elected to the bench in 2002 and re-elected in 2014.
The 12th Judicial Circuit includes DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota Counties. Nicholas has held assignments in the Juvenile and Civil Divisions. He was also instrumental in establishing a Parent Mentoring Program, which pairs parents and children involved in Dependency Court with those who have already proceeded through the system.
Nicholas received a B.A. in English from Iona College in 1981. He then earned a J.D. at Stetson University College of Law in 1987.
Prior to his judgeship, Nicholas worked as a prosecutor. He has also taught as an adjunct instructor at the State College of Florida's Legal Assisting/Paralegal program.
Nicholas sat as a board member of Manatee Children's Services, Kiwanis Club of Bradenton, and The SCF Foundation, Inc.
In 2012, Nicholas received the President's Award of Distinction from the State College of Florida.
He is a lifelong resident of Manatee County.
