Biography

The Hon. E. Jeannette Ogden is a justice for the Erie County Supreme Court in the Eighth Judicial District of New York. She was initially appointed to the Buffalo City Court by former Mayor Anthony M. Masiello in 1995. Then, in 2015, she was elected to the Erie County Supreme Court.


Ogden earned a B.S. in criminal justice from Buffalo State College in 1977. She then completed a J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School in 1983.


Prior to her appointment to the bench, Ogden was a trial attorney for CIGNA Insurance Company, where she was tasked with defending corporations, school districts, hospitals, and municipalities. During this time, she also worked as a sole practitioner in her own private practice. Ogden has also served as an assistant district attorney in the Erie County District Attorney’s Office as well as an assistant county attorney for the County of Erie.


Ogden has taught as an adjunct professor at Buffalo State College, Daemen College, and the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School.


She has served as president of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York as well as the Women Lawyers of Western New York.


Her other memberships have included the National Association of Women Judges, the New York State Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, the Erie Community College Criminal Justice Advisory Council, the New York State Association of Women Judges, the Women’s Bar Association, the House of Delegates of the New York State Bar Association, the Character and Fairness Committee of the Eighth Judicial District, the Erie County Chapter of Links, and the NAACP.


Ogden was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. She is a member of the Olive Baptist Church.
