Judge Diane Schlipper - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Diane Schlipper is a judge for the Dane County Circuit Court of Wisconsin. She was elected to the bench on April 5, 2022, and assumed office on August 1, 2022.

Prior to her election, Schlipper was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, a position to which she was named in 2016. During her tenure there, she held assignments as tribal liaison, re-entry coordinator, and civil rights coordinator.

Schlipper earned a bachelor’s degree in Russian and political science from Gustavus Adolphus College (1994) and a master’s degree in social work from Loyola University Chicago (1998). She spent the next several years working as a social worker for the Jewish Children’s Bureau (1998 to 2005) and the director of residential services for Jewish Child and Family Services (2005 to 2008) before completing a J.D. at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2011.

After graduating from law school, Schlipper began her legal career as an assistant district attorney for the Dane County District Attorney’s Office. She served in that capacity until 2016, specializing in human trafficking and other sensitive criminal prosecutions.

When not presiding over legal proceedings, Schlipper and her husband enjoy completing Ironman competitions and competitive cycling. She also values the state’s natural resources and supports environmental protection initiatives.
