Judge Diana L. Embil - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Diana L. Embil (Ret.) served as a judge for the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. Embil was appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court on November 12, 2012, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. George F. Scully, Jr. She retired on December 1, 2014.

Prior to her appointment, Embil served as associate regional counsel for the United States Environmental Protection Agency, acting as an expert on wetlands and environmental justice matters. She has also worked as a staff attorney for the Chicago Public Schools and as an associate for Jones, Ware & Grenard.

Embil earned a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1985. She then worked as a law clerk for the Hon. Charles E. Freeman of the Illinois Supreme Court as well as the Hon. R. Eugene Pincham of the Illinois First District Appellate Court.

Her memberships have included the Character & Fitness Committee of the Board of Bar Admissions of the Illinois Supreme Court as well as the Minimum Continuing Legal Education of the Illinois Supreme Court.

Embil is registered as a Democrat.
