Judge Desmond A. Green - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Desmond A. Green is a Justice of the Richmond County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the Thirteenth Judicial District of New York. He was originally elected to the Kings County Supreme Court, Criminal Term in 2014 and was promptly assigned to preside on the Richmond County Supreme Court. In 2017, Justice Green as appointed to serve as the Administrative Judge of Civil and Criminal Matters for the Thirteenth Judicial District by the Hon. Lawrence K. Marks, Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York.

Before his election to the Supreme Court bench, Justice Green served as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York from 2004 to 2013. During his tenure in that capacity, he was appointed to serve as a judge for the Kings County Criminal Court by the Hon. Jonathan Lippman, former Chief Administrative Judge and was later elevated to Acting Justice of the Supreme Court in 2010.

Justice Green holds a J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School.

Prior to his election to the Civil Court, Green practiced criminal and civil law as a sole practitioner. Before entering into solo practice, he had worked as an assistant district attorney with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.

While on the Richmond County Supreme Court, Justice Green has presided in the Residential Foreclosure Part and has also served as a presiding Justice for the Summary Jury Trial Program.
