Judge Dennis W. Bridewell: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Dennis W. Bridewell (Ret.) was a judge for the 249th District Court of Texas in Johnson County. Bridewell initially joined the bench as a judge for the Johnson County Court at Law in 1987. Four years later, he was subsequently elevated to the Johnson County District Court.

Before his judicial career, Bridewell served as an assistant district attorney in the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office as well as a county attorney for the Office of the Johnson County Attorney.

Bridewell earned a bachelor's degree in government from Tarleton State University. Then, in 1973, he completed a J.D. at Texas Tech University School of Law. He is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

His professional memberships have included the Johnson County Bar Association, the College of the State Bar, and the Texas Bar Foundation. He has served as chairman of the Juvenile Board of Johnson County, the Allocations Committee for the United Way of Johnson County, and the local board for the United Way of Americas Emergency Food and Shelter Program. He has also held memberships in the Elks Club in Cleburne, the Christian Business Club, and the Cleburne Rotary Club.

Raised in Somervell County, Bridewell is a graduate of Glen Rose High School. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. His family attends Field Street Baptist Church in Cleburne.

He is registered as a Republican.
