Judge Dee David Gay - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Dee David Gay is a judge for the 18th Judicial District Criminal Court of Tennessee. He was elected to the bench on August 3, 2006.

The 18th Judicial District encompasses Sumner County.

Gay earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis in 1973. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, in 1977. He is licensed to practice in Tennessee (1978).

Two years after graduating from law school, Gay was hired as an assistant district attorney for the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office. He worked in that capacity until 1980, at which time he transferred to the Sumner County District Attorney’s Office.

His memberships have included the Tennessee Trial Judges Association. He has also been involved with the First Baptist Church in Hendersonville.

He is registered as a Republican.
