Judge David L. Herring - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. David L. Herring is a commissioner for the Waukesha County Circuit Court of Wisconsin. He was appointed to the bench by the judges of the circuit court in 2020.

Herring earned a bachelor’s degree in American political studies from Northern Arizona University in 2010. He then completed a J.D. at Marquette University Law School in 2014. As a law student, Herring interned with the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office (2013 to 2014).

After graduating from law school, Herring entered into private practice. He started as an associate at La Fleur Law Office in Milwaukee. Then, in 2016, he opened the Herring Law Office in Waukesha. He supplemented his practice with service as an assistant state public defender with the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office (2016 to 2020).

A veteran of the United States Army, Herring served as 19D Section Sergeant at Last Duty Station in Ft. Carson, Colorado. He spent the next several years working as a journeyman finisher for Spikes Construction (2004 to 2007) and the owner of DLH Services (2007 to 2009) before continuing his studies at Northern Arizona University.
