Biography

The Hon. David I. Schmidt (deceased) served as a judge for the Kings County Supreme Court in the Second Judicial District of New York. Schmidt was elected to the bench in 2007. He retired in 2015 and joined Resolute Systems as a private mediator and arbitrator.

Schmidt began his judicial career as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York (Kings County), a position to which he was elected in 1996. During his tenure there, he was appointed acting supreme court justice for the Kings County Supreme Court. He served in that capacity from 2000 to 2006.

Prior to his election, Schmidt served as a law secretary for the Hon. Gerard Rosenberg of the Kings County Supreme Court (1984 to 1995).

Schmidt earned a B.S. in political science from Brooklyn College. He then completed a J.D. at Brooklyn Law School in 1982.

He is a recipient of the Charles C. Pinkney Award from the Defense Association of New York (2011) and the Ecumenical Award from the Catholic Lawyers Guild (2007).

Schmidt passed away on September 14, 2018.
