Judge David D. Brannon - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. David D. Brannon is a judge for the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas (Probate Division) in Ohio. He was elected to the bench in November 2020.

Brannon received a B.A. in political science and public administration from Miami University in 2002. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Dayton School of Law in 2005.

While in law school, Brannon served as a summer law clerk for the Green County Court of Common Pleas (2003 to 2004) and was a staff writer and editor of the school’s Law Review.

He was licensed to practice before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the Ohio Department of Insurance Accident and Health and Life Major Lines of Insurance, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

After graduating from law school, he began his legal career as a partner in The Brannon Law Firm, where he practiced alongside his father and brother. His areas of practice included probate, trusts, and estate planning. He also gained experience litigating disputes between parties concerning trusts, life insurance, IRA’s, 401(k)’s, pensions, financial accounts, estate assets, powers of attorney, fiduciaries, heirs, beneficiaries, and creditors. Brannon remained at the firm until his election to the Probate Division.

He was a certified specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law by the Ohio State Bar Association (2015 to 2020).

His memberships have included the Ohio State Bar Association and the Dayton Bar Association. Brannon has served as co-chair of the Ohio Judicial Conference’s Probate Law & Procedure Committee and Legislative Committee and of the Dayton Bar Association’s Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Committee.

He was also a legal advisor and Housing Corporation Director of Delta Chi Alumni Board of Trustees (Miami University) and a trustee of the University of Dayton School of Law Alumni Association.
