Biography

The Hon. David B. Beck (deceased) served as a judge for the 7th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Beck was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott in 2011, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Julianne Piggotte. He passed away on September 2, 2017.


The 7th Judicial Circuit encompasses Flagler County, Putnam County, St. Johns County, and Volusia County.


Prior to his appointment, Beck was a judge for the Volusia County Court, a position to which he was named in 2003.


Beck earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1975.


After graduating from law school, Beck began his legal career as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the 4th Judicial Circuit and the 15th Judicial Circuit. He served in that capacity until 1979, at which time he entered into private practice. Then, in 1981, Beck began working as a corporate in-house attorney, spending the next seven years as legal counsel for ComputerLand Corporation, ITEL Corporation, and Investment Mortgage International.


Beck returned to private practice in 1988. However, his time there was brief. He quickly joined the Office of the State Attorney for the 7th Judicial Circuit. He spent two years as an assistant state attorney, eventually leaving to open his own private practice as a sole practitioner. He then moved to Tindell, Beck and Davis (1992 to 1997) and Upchurch, Watson, White, and Fraxades (1997 to 1998).


Beck was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, and raised in Ormond Beach, Florida, where he graduated from Seabreeze High School. A veteran of the United States Army, Beck was the first judge to preside over the Veterans Court of the Seventh Judicial Circuit, which he helped establish in 2013.
