Judge David A. Hejmanowski - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. David A. Hejmanowski is a judge for the Probate and Juvenile Division of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. He was elected to the bench on November 4, 2014.

Hejmanowski sat as chair of the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Advisory Committee on Interpreter Services and the Commission on the Rule of Superintendence.

Prior to his election, Hejmanowski presided as a magistrate for the Probate and Juvenile Division of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas, a position to which he was selected in 2003. During his tenure there, he assumed the duties of Juvenile Court Administrator, overseeing budget, facilities, and personnel matters for the court.

Hejmanowski earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Hiram College in 1996. He then completed a J.D. at the Ohio State University, Michael E. Moritz College of Law in 1999.

After graduating from law school, Hejmanowski began his legal career as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office. He handled criminal, civil, and juvenile matters in addition to representing the Commissioners, the Board of Elections, and the General Health District.

His memberships have included the Ohio State Bar Association and the Delaware County Bar Foundation (president). He also sits on the boards of the National Center for Juvenile Justice, the National Council of Juvenile & Family Court Judges, the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice, and the Ohio State Governor’s Council on Juvenile Justice.

Hejmanowski resides in Delaware with his wife, Ashley, and their two children.
