Biography

The Hon. David A. Boynton is an associate judge for the Montgomery County Circuit Court in Maryland. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Robert Ehrlich on December 18, 2003.

Boynton earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Gettysburg College in 1979. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1982. As a law student, Boynton clerked at Cohen, Snyder, McClellan, Eisenberg & Katzenberg in Baltimore.

After graduating from law school, Boynton began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. William M. Cave of the Montgomery County Circuit Court. He then became an assistant state’s attorney with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office the following year. He served in that capacity until 1987, at which time he joined Donohue, Ehrmantraut & Montedonico. Then, in 1990, Boynton returned to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he held assignments in the Silver Spring Felony Trial Unit.

His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Maryland State’s Attorneys’ Association, and the Montgomery County American Inns of Court. He also sat on the Rockville Chamber of Commerce and the Inquiry Panel of the Attorney Grievance Commission.

He is a recipient of the Community Service Award from the Montgomery County Bar Foundation (2003).

Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Silver Spring and Rockville, Maryland, Boynton attended Colonel Zadok Magruder High School. His wife, Magdalena, has worked for the United States Department of Justice and the United States Department of Treasury. When not handling legal matters, Boynton has served as a cub scout pack den leader for the Boy Scouts of America as well as a coach for the Montgomery County Recreation Department and the Olney Boys & Girls Club.
