Judge Darnell Jackson: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Darnell Jackson is a judge for the Tenth Circuit Court of Michigan in Saginaw County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jennifer Granholm on April 26, 2006, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Leopold Borrello (deceased).

While on the Circuit Court, Jackson was appointed Chief Judge of the court by the Michigan Supreme Court in 2020. He began his judicial career as a judge for the Seventieth District Court in Saginaw County, joining its bench in 2001.

Before that, Jackson had worked as a private practice attorney, an assistant city attorney, and an assistant prosecutor with the Saginaw County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. He also served as deputy chief of the Saginaw Police Department and was the director of Drug Control Policy for the State of Michigan.

He received a B.A. from Wayne State University in 1977. Jackson went on to complete a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School in 1981. He was admitted to practice in Michigan in 1982.

At the time of his appointment, Jackson resided in Saginaw, Michigan. When not presiding over legal matters, Jackson is an avid golfer, chess player, clock collector, and movie buff. He is also an author, having had his first book published in 2013.
