The Hon. Daniel T. Nishigaya is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Catherine A. Gallagher.
Nishigaya earned a B.A. from Amherst College. He then completed a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1995.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Nishigaya served in the Office of the District Attorney of Santa Clara County. He first joined as a deputy district attorney in 1996, eventually rising to supervising deputy district attorney in 2006.
Nishigaya was raised in Orange County. He self-identifies as a fourth-generation Japanese American of German, English, and Swiss descent. His great-grandmother, Kiyo Wakita, is said to be one of the first Japanese-Americans born in Hawai’i.
He is registered as a Republican.
