The Hon. Claudia M. González is a commissioner for the Yuma County Superior Court in Arizona. She was appointed to the bench by Yuma County Presiding Judge David M. Haws in 2021, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Kathryn Stocking-Tate.
Prior to her appointment, González was a deputy county attorney for the Yuma County Attorney’s Office, a position to which she was selected in 2014. During her tenure there, she held assignments in the Major Crimes Unit, prosecuting high-profile cases involving child sex crimes and homicides. Before that, she spent two years as a staff attorney with the Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project.
González earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and Spanish literature from Emory University in 2006. She spent the next few years teaching at Phoenix Day School and the Seoul Language Institute before completing a J.D. at Arizona State University, Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law in 2012.
As a law student, González was a judicial intern for the Hon. Mary H. Murguia of the United States District Court of the District of Arizona (2010), a judicial extern for the Executive Office of Immigration Review at the United States Department of Justice (2010), a legal writing extern at Greenberg Traurig (2011), and a student attorney for the Immigration Law & Policy Clinic (2012).
Her memberships have included the Arizona Women’s Lawyers Association, the Yuma County Bar Association, and Campesinos Sin Fronteras. She also resurrected the Arizona High School Mock Trial Program for Region One, serving as its Mock Trial Coordinator for the State of Arizona.
She is registered as a Democrat.
