Biography

Overview

The Hon. Christopher M. Honigsberg is a judge for the Sonoma County Superior Court in California[1]. Honigsberg was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown on February 27, 2018, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Elliot L. Daum[2].

On the bench, Honigsberg has been assigned to the court's Civil and Family Law Courthouse[3].

Educational background

Honigsberg earned a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. At the University of San Francisco School of Law, he completed a J.D. in 2005. While in law school, Honigsberg co-founded the Criminal Law Society and was a member of the trial competition team[4]. He was admitted to the State Bar of California (December 2005).

Career history

After graduating from law school, Honigsberg began his legal career as a deputy district attorney with the Tulare County District Attorney's Office (2006 to 2009). In 2009, he joined the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office as a deputy district attorney, where he continued as a prosecutor for the next nine years[5]. In that role, his prosecutions included the case against two men convicted in an armored-car robbery[5]. During that period, he served as president of the prosecutors' association[6].

Personal life

Born and raised in Berkeley, Honigsberg is the son of Peter J. Honigsberg, who taught law and founded the Witness to Guantanamo project[4]. He initially did not plan to enter the legal profession[4]. At the time of his appointment, he lived in Petaluma.

Outside the courtroom, Honigsberg has served as a board member of Social Advocates for Youth since 2013[6]. As an alumnus of the University of San Francisco School of Law, he participated in the Alumni Mentor Program[4]. He served as a moot court judge and spoke on panels for first-year law students[4].

Honigsberg is registered as a Democrat[2].
