Biography

The Hon. Christopher D. Dingell is a judge for the Third Circuit Court in Michigan. He was elected to the bench in 2002 and re-elected in 2008, 2014, and 2020.

Dingell earned a bachelor’s degree in materials and metallurgical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1978. He then completed a J.D. at the Detroit College of Law in 1986. He is admitted to practice in Michigan (1987) and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan (1988).

After graduating from law school, Dingell represented the 7th District as a member of the Michigan Senate. He is a third-generation politician, with his grandfather (John Dingell, Sr.), his father (John Dingell, Jr.), and his stepmother (Debbie Dingell) all serving in the United States House of Representatives.

His memberships have included the Economic Club of Detroit, the United Conservation Clubs, the Polish Roman Catholic Union, the Polish American Congress, and the Trenton Exchange Club. He has also been involved with the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors of the Downriver YMCA.

Born in Washington, D.C., Dingell was a resident of Trenton, Michigan, at the time of his election. He and his wife, Cindy, have one daughter. The family attends Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. When not presiding over legal proceedings, Dingell is an avid outdoorsman, zymurgist, and reader.

He is registered as a Democrat.
