The Hon. Charles Margines is a judge of the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was appointed to the Municipal Court of Orange County by former Governor Pete Wilson on May 25, 1993, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of Judge Randell L. Wilkinson. He was elevated to the Superior Court on August 10, 1998, upon the majority vote of the judges in the county to convert Municipal Courts to Superior Courts.
Margines attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a B.A. in English in 1970 as well as a J.D. in 1974.
He joined the Office of the Public Defender of Orange County in 1975, serving as a deputy public defender until 1981. He then became the sole practitioner in his own private practice, where he handled criminal defense and personal injury cases for the next twelve years.
Margines has been a member of the California Judges Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, and the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association. He has co-chaired the Gender Equity Committee of the Orange County Bar Association.
He served on the Executive Board of TODOS Hospital Support Group from 1992 to 1995.
Margines was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1961.
He is married with three sons. In his spare time, he likes to exercise. He enjoys jogging, cycling, and playing volleyball.
He is registered as a Republican.
