Biography

The Hon. Charles J. Cunningham, III is a judge for the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Ed Rendell in 2005.

Prior to his appointment, Cunningham served as a deputy district attorney in the Philadelphia County District Attorney’s Office. He also worked as an attorney in private practice.

During his tenure in private practice, Cunningham represented plaintiffs in personal injury actions, employment claims, lemon law, and consumer claims as well as defendants in products liability, premises liability, automobile, and other negligence and employment related claims. He also handled administrative law matters on behalf of the Teamsters Local 502, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.

Cunningham earned an A.B. in economics from St. Joseph’s College in 1970. He then completed a J.D. at Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law in 1973.

His memberships have included the Judicial Conduct Board and the Disciplinary Board of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Cunningham was born and raised in Philadelphia, where he attended Father Judge High School. He is fluent is Spanish. His wife, Patricia, is originally from Mexico City.
