Judge Chad E. Bridges - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Chad E. Bridges is a judge for the 458th District Court in Fort Bend County, Texas. He was elected to the bench on November 8, 2022.

Prior to his election, Bridges was Chief of the Family Violence Division at the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, a position to which he was named in 2019. Before that, he spent time as a judge for the 240th District Court (2015 to 2018). Bridges was initially appointed to the bench by Governor Greg Abbott, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the late Thomas Culver (deceased). Bridges lost his bid for re-election in 2018.

Bridges earned a B.S. from Texas A&M University. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Houston Law Center. He is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (2020).

After graduating from law school, Bridges began his legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. During his tenure there, he handled post-conviction death penalty litigation on behalf of the State of Texas. He also prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases as a member of the Trial Bureau.

Bridges later transferred to the Waller County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, where he served as the first assistant district attorney. In that capacity, he established the Family Violence Division and the Narcotics Task Force, eventually leaving to become legal counsel for Computer Sciences Corporation.

Then, in 2003, Bridges joined the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office. He was named Chief Prosecutor for the Family Violence Division, serving as the director of the Fort Bend County Crime Victim’s Response Team.

His memberships have included the Fort Bend County Human Trafficking Task Force, the State Bar Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee, and the Texas District and County Attorneys Association. He has also served as a volunteer trainer for the Fort Bend County Women’s Center.

He is registered as a Republican.
