The Hon. Cesar A. Archilla is First Justice for the Haverhill District Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Deval Patrick on July 16, 2013.
Over the course of his judicial career, Archilla has held assignments as an associate justice for the Peabody District Court. He was subsequently named First Justice of the Haverhill District Court in 2020.
Archilla earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Atlantic Union College in 1986. He spent the next several years working as a statistical analyst for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston before completing a J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 1998.
After graduating from law school, Archilla began his legal career as an assistant district attorney for the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. He served in that capacity until 2005, at which time he entered into private practice as a litigation attorney at Andrews & Updegraph. Archilla left his law firm in 2010. He was selected to serve as a member for the Massachusetts Parole Board in Natick. He held this position until his appointment to the bench three years later.
His memberships have included the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Salem Bar Association. He also sat on the Swampscott Democratic Town Committee and the Board of Directors of Lynch-van Otterloo YMCA.
Archilla was a resident of Swampscott at the time of his appointment.
