Biography

The Hon. Catherine L. Combee is a judge for the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. She was elected to the bench in 2012, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Ernest M. Jones, Jr.

The 10th Judicial Circuit encompasses Hardee County, Highlands County, and Polk County. Combee has held assignments in Polk County, presiding over cases in the Civil Division and the Criminal Division.

Combee earned a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, a master’s degree in microbiology, a master's degree in business administration, and a Ph.D. in medical sciences from the University of South Florida. She spent the next several years in the healthcare field, working as the associate vice-president of Laboratory Corporation of America and the chief operating officer of Columbia Central Florida Laboratory Services. Then, in 2000, she completed a J.D. at Stetson University College of Law in 2000.

After graduating from law school, Combee began her legal career as an assistant state attorney in the Misdemeanor and Felony Division of the Office of the State Attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit. Two years later, she started the Combee Law Firm, where she focused on family law from 2003 to 2012.

Her memberships have included the Animal Services of Polk County Board of Commissioners, the Lake Region Law Academy Advisory Board, and the Board of Safety Harbor Laboratory, Inc. She has also been involved with the Saddle Up Therapeutic Riding Program, the Victory Church, and the Lakeland Dressage Association, and she has served as an administrative hearing officer for the Polk County Board of Commissioners.

Combee was born and raised in Polk County and graduated from Winter Haven High School. Her mother worked as an abstracter for a title company, and her father owned Combee Airboats.
