Biography

Hon. Bryant Y. Yang is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom in November 2020. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of Yvonne T. Sanchez (Ret.).

Yang received a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 2004. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 2007.

After law school, he joined Morrison & Foerster, LLP as an associate. Then, in 2010, Yang became a special prosecutor at the Burbank City Attorney’s Office and special counsel at the Glendale City Attorney’s Office, though his time in those positions would be brief.

Yang then began a judicial clerkship with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the following year, he began a clerkship with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

After completing his clerkship with the U.S. Court of Appeals, Yang became the deputy director for Voter Protection for Nevada at Organizing for America in 2012. That same year, he joined Irell & Manella as a litigation attorney.

Yang left the private sector in 2016 to become an Assistant U.S. Attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. He remained in that capacity until his appointment to the bench.

He also served as a lecturer and adjunct professor at Harvey Mudd College and was also a lecturer at the University of California, Irvine.

His memberships have included the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association, the California State Bar, and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.

Yang is a registered Democrat.
