Biography

The Hon. Bridgett N. Whitmore is a judge for the 193rd (Civil) District Court in Dallas County, Texas. She was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018, and re-elected in 2022.

Whitmore earned a B.A. in psychology from Yale University in 1995. Then, in 1998, she completed a J.D. at Tulane University Law School.

After graduating from law school, Whitmore began her legal career as an assistant district attorney in the Dallas County District Attorney's Office. She worked in that capacity for three years, eventually leaving to enter into private practice at DeHay & Elliston. During her tenure with the firm, she defended Fortune 500 corporations in general litigation matters, such as product liability, toxic tort, asbestos and silica, insurance, business and commercial litigation, and employment litigation.

Whitmore left DeHay & Elliston in 2013. She spent the next few years working as general counsel for School by Teachers, Inc. (2013 to 2015) and as a regional attorney for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (2014 to 2015). Then, in 2015, Whitmore returned to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, where she served as an assistant district attorney until her election to the bench.

Her memberships have included Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, and St. Luke’s Methodist Church.

Raised in Dallas County, Whitmore attended Booker T. Washington High School of the Performing and Visual Arts.

She is registered as a Democrat.
