Biography

Hon. Brian T. Fischer (Ret.) is a senior judge for the New Haven Judicial District Superior Court in Connecticut. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Rowland in 2001.

Over the course of his judicial career, Fischer also presided as a judge and Administrative Judge in New Haven.

Prior to his appointment, he managed his own private practice in West Haven (1986 to 2001). His practice emphasized litigation, as well as real estate closings, workers’ compensation matters, and probate matters.

Fischer first worked as an attorney at the family law firm, Fischer & Fischer, in West Haven, where he practiced alongside his father and uncle (1979 to 1985). In addition to his practice, Fischer spent ten years as an assistant corporation counsel for the City of West Haven (1991 to 2001). He also served as a magistrate, fact finder, and arbitrator in Connecticut.

Fischer received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond in 1975. He went on to complete a J.D. at Widener University, Delaware Law School in 1979. Fischer was admitted to preside in Connecticut (1979) and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut (1979).

He is a past president of the West Haven Bar Association.

One of five children, Fischer attended Notre Dame High School. He and his wife, Katie, have four children.

Fischer received recognition in 2017 for donating a kidney to his longtime friend, Martin M. Looney, the Connecticut Senate President Pro Tem.
