Judge Brian A. Tillema - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Brian A. Tillema is a deputy probate commissioner for the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri. He was appointed to the bench by the Hon. Mark A. Styles, Jr. on February 21, 2020.

Prior to his appointment, Tillema was a sole practitioner in his own private practice, a law firm he founded in Lee’s Summit in 1993. During his tenure there, he specialized in probate law.

Tillema earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Kansas in 1987. He then completed a J.D. at Washburn University School of Law in 1990.

After graduating from law school, Tillema began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. John A. Borron, Jr. of the Probate Division of the 16th Judicial Circuit. Then, in 1992, he became a law clerk to the Hon. Donald L. Mason of Division 11 of the 16th Judicial Circuit.

Raised in Lake Lotawana, Missouri, Tillema enjoys sailboat racing, barefoot skiing, and participating in triathlons.
