Judge Brent N. Robinson: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Brent N. Robinson is a judge for the Richland County Court of Common Pleas (General Division) in Ohio. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Kasich in February 2014 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James D. Henson (Ret.). Robinson was subsequently elected to the seat on November 8, 2016.

During his judicial tenure, Robinson has presided over the Drug Court and Re-Entry Court.

He received a B.A. from Otterbein College. Robinson went on to complete a J.D. at Capital University Law School. He was admitted to practice in Ohio in 1994.

Prior to his appointment, he was a first assistant prosecuting attorney with the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office, a position he had held since 2006. As such, Robinson was responsible for handling the office’s criminal and civil litigation as well as supervising its criminal, civil, and juvenile/appellate prosecutors and other support staff. Before that, he had worked as the chief criminal assistant since 2004, tasked with overseeing and supervising all felony prosecutions in Richland County. During his tenure there, Robinson had a one-hundred percent conviction rate in murder cases, which included thirteen murder trials and one death penalty trial.

He first joined the county’s Prosecutor’s Office as a part-time assistant prosecuting attorney in 1994, during which time Robinson also practiced as a part-time private practice attorney.

He received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Appreciation Award (2010) and an award of appreciation from the U.S. Marshals Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force for providing legal advice and support during their mission to rid Richland County of violent fugitives (2009 to 2013).

Robinson considers the safety of Richland County citizens his primary goal as a judge.
